- “Spend less than you earn”. I heard this advice for the first time over a decade ago while listening to Anthony Robbins ‘ self help CD set “Get the Edge”. In the YouTube video Tony reviews how to end financial self-sabotage. If you are serious about financial security this video should probably be in your self help library.
- In this video, Dr. Mercola interviews Andrew Saul a.k.a. The Megavitamin Man. Saul is a big believer in large doses of vitamins instead of or in conjunction with destructive medications, to treat certain diseases and he has over 30 years of research to support his claim. He has several videos from which you can gather information about vitamins.
- Dave Ramsey’s Life, Money, Hope is a series of bible based teachings on handling money and having financial peace. Again if you are seeking financial freedom, you are missing a key piece from your arsenal if you do not watch this entire series. If you are not a believer in the bible, don’t let that deter you from listening. That will definitely be like throwing out the baby with the bath water.

I struggle sometimes to put pen to paper so to speak. Not because I don’t have something to say but because I don’t believe I’m much of a writer.
But today I wondered what does it matter if I can’t write? Does that mean I shouldn’t? Jeff Goins said the way to know if you are a writer is to write. So rather than tell myself I’m not a writer, I’m choosing to tell my story instead. Whatever that story is. I will continue to share my life experiences as I first intended when I started blogging.
The first thing I want to share is that I had my first Soul Cycle class this past week. It was very scary and exciting at the same time. I always tell myself that I would try anything once. I hadn’t been on a bicycle for well over 30 years. Being on one — even one that doesn’t move while still going a mile a minute scared the living daylights out of me.
I expected to be intimidated by the more experienced participants, but I wasn’t. Instead, I admired those in the class who seem like they were doing this their whole life. Also, the young male instructor was a delight to watch. He moved with grace and skill. Yet he was very encouraging and made me feel like I was the only one in the class. He made everyone feel that way it seems. Needless to say I will be going back.
The second thing I want to share is that I finally connected with a Naturopathic Doctor. For years I had wanted to ditch my regular doctor who appear more interested in writing prescriptions than he was in my overall health. Finding Dr. Dana Cohen was a Godsend at a time when I was at my wits end concerning my health.
It has been over 18 years since I was diagnosed with hypertension. And even though my doctor had me on three different medications, I was not getting any better and my blood pressure readings were getting higher and higher. I was so distraught that I had made up my mind to stop taking the meds. I decided that even if I had a stroke that’s just the way it was going to be. But I didn’t want to live the rest of my life poisoning my kidneys with an increasing amount of chemicals that didn’t seem to be doing anything but make me pee often, gave me headaches and saddled me with embarrassing coughs at the most inconvenient times. And those are only the side effects I know about.
Dr. Cohen has given me renewed hope in the medical profession. She made me feel that she was interested in me being healthy. My insurance won’t pay her for being a good doctor but that’s OK. This is my way of life now and it’s good to have someone I can partner with to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

For a while now I’ve been thinking about seeing the United States via rail.
I like the idea of relaxing while traipsing across this beautiful country digesting each scenery with relish. I imagine taking photos of sceneries and of the cities I visit. However, what got me really excited about finally trying it out is the fact that while getting dressed the other morning I was again thinking about traveling across the US on Amtrak. While I was daydreaming, my ears caught the tail end of an advertisement on 1010 WIN describing the beautiful sceneries you can photograph while experiencing an Amtrak adventure. My pulse now race every time I think of taking a trip on a train.
So stay tuned. I will be posting photos on my blog as well as on Instagram. I will provide a narrative of my experiences of course. I’m really excited to start.
I took my two youngest sons to Niagara Falls several years ago. We traveled by Amtrak and we had such a wonderful time on the train. I promised them we would do it again but we never did. I’m hoping that I can at least get one of my sons to travel with me each time I take a trip going forward. I can’t wait!
Eating healthy on a budget is not impossible. However, it does take some thought and planning.
One way to supercharge your mealtimes for pennies on the dollar is by sprouting. Sprouts are both delicious and nutritious. Some of the more common foods you can sprout are peas, sunflower seeds, and broccoli. Though there are many more. Most sprouts are very high in Vitamin C and plant protein.
Why Sprout? Sprouting is an easy way to eat high nutrient content foods at a very reasonable cost. To give you an example, organic pea and sunflower sprouts cost $5 per pound at my local farmers market. However, growing your own sprouts take time. But they pack a nutritional punch and are lower in cost. Still, they are really worth the effort.
For instance, I purchased one pound of organic sunflower seeds for around $6. That pound of seeds have produced several trays of sprouts like the one pictured below.
In addition, according to Dr. Axe sprouting enhance the nutritional content of your food.
My first experience sprouting was with sunflower seeds purchased from www.wheatgrasskit.com. The photos shows different stages of the process for me as well as one of the ways I used it in my home made vegan sushi.
Sprouts are not only cheap to grow and nutritious, they are also very delicious in salads, smoothies, wraps and sandwiches.

How many drops of rain does it take to make a rain shower?
In describing backyard farming in the documentary Food Patriots, a traditional farmer exclaimed “it’s only one drop in the ocean”! He was being interviewed by filmmakers Jeff Spitz and his wife, Jennifer Admur Spitz. Their family’s premise is that if you only grow 10% of what you eat, it’s a start that makes a huge difference.
The filmmakers have joined with thousands across the United States to take charge of what their family eat by growing food (fruits, vegetables, and chickens) in their backyards.
So whether we are voting for the next President or feeding the world. Each drop is necessary to accomplish that rain shower.
That is, each vote counts.
Each backyard matter.
Now, when it comes to feeding the world what is your one drop?
Mine start with growing wheatgrass and sunflower sprouts in my tiny New York apartment.

Many of us have made resolutions for the New Year. It’s our thing to do each year. And although there are many pundits bemoaning the dismal statistics of how many people fail to live up to their own expectations, I say, be strong.
You are not alone. You can still live up to your own ideals.
Even if we do not achieve our goals 100%, we should still try.
There is nothing wrong with hope springing eternal. It means we are alive. And it means we want to keep living.
Living more productive lives.
So, my encouragement today is to be strong and courageous.
You are not alone.
What is that ONE Thing You Want To Achieve in 2016 and Why?
Christmas dinner is finished and the gifts are all unwrapped. While you are chilling, and reflecting on what a crazy last few days it’s been. And while you look forward to starting your New Year, fulfilling your resolutions and all that. Consider these podcasts that may assist with creating, implementing, and fulfilling your goals and dreams going forward.
Whatever your resolutions. Whatever your goals, dreams or bucket list. The below list of podcasts is a great starting point to help you pivot in the direction you so earnestly seek.
One of my goals is to start a podcast. While I prepare my first 3 episodes, I listen to the below experts. I hope you find them as inspiring as I have. You will receive a lot of useful information from them. And, you will be tempted to just start anywhere. But you have to start from the beginning. Episode 1. Otherwise you will lose the value of the entire series.
More importantly, you will miss the essence, the very heart and soul of these podcast hosts.
- The Charged Life by Brendon Burchard. Author of New York bestseller The Motivation Manifesto among others, coach and what you could call a younger version of Tony Robbins but so much more. This guy has almost 4 million likes on his Facebook page!
- The Portfolio Life by Jeff Goins. Author of the Art of Work and You are a Writer. Jeff’s podcast demonstrates how to intertwine various skills and passions into a cohesive profession. He also teaches writing online.
- Achieve Your Goals by Hal Elrod. Founder of the Miracle Morning principle. Author of The Miracle Morning book series. Hal is witty and uses the interview format. He has overcome extreme odds. His courage is undeniable.
- This is Your Life by Michael Hyatt. This one contain my favorite Intro music. Former Thomas Nelson Publisher CEO and NYT best selling author of Platform: Get Noticed in a Noisy World. Another great source for help in writing and getting published.
It’s almost the end of December. The New Year is just around the corner. Some people had two lists this month — the Christmas list and the New Year Resolution List.
But are you waiting until after December 31 to starting working on your goals — your resolution list?
New Year: When it comes to resolutions and goal setting when to start is up to you. Why wait though? Some people wait just to indulge more in the behaviors and habits they are resolving to stop. All the while putting off the action required to achieve the goals on their list. There’s no reason you can’t start now. Today.
Resolutions: Each New Year, millions of people make resolutions for themselves. Whether ditching bad habits for good ones or promising ourselves to do more, it’s the same every year. We start the year off with a bang. Gyms are full. Blenders and juicers are flying off the shelves. And our gaits and moods are obviously lighter.
But as the month of January moves forward. And old man winter squeeze us in his death cold hands, our resolve gets depleted. Our souls run dry and we find ourselves curled up into a hopeless ball. Once again beating ourselves up for not trying hard enough…for failing. And vowing to do better next year.
But why wait for New Year? Why not start now?
Goal Setting: Now that our Christmas lists are all but utilized, we can now turn to that “goal setting list”. While we passively go through Holiday rituals — Eating and drinking too much and leaving exercise to chance — and as we look beyond December 31’s horizon. With the twinkle of hope in our eyes, we gain strength in knowing that definitely starting January 1, we will do better.
But why wait?
Resolve to start working on your goals now. Yes. Today. Resolve to eat less today. Resolve to take a walk either early morning or after dinner. Resolve to write in your journal or create a budget now. Resolve to start today.
There’s no rule that say you can’t. When you start now, you are bound to have a bit more velocity when you get to January 1. Otherwise you are just planning to feel bad before you feel better.
So go on. Skip the bad. Start now.
